Know the Risk Initiative

Empowering Nye County through education, prevention, and youth engagement.

The Know the Risk Initiative is part of Nye County’s comprehensive response to substance use and prevention, supported by the Fund for a Resilient Nevada. This initiative focuses on education and outreach for all ages—especially youth and families—through public awareness, prevention materials, and creative engagement.

Whether you're a student, parent, educator, or community member, this initiative provides the tools and information needed to make informed decisions and start meaningful conversations.

Nye County launched the pilot year of the Youth in Prevention Art Contest at Pahrump Valley High School to give students a creative platform to explore prevention, recovery, and community resilience through art.

Contest #1, “Resilience and Strong Roots,” featured powerful student artwork reflecting hope, healing, and awareness around the impact of opioids in our communities.

Congratulations to our winners:

1st Place: Khloe & Mikayla
2nd Place: Lhiana & Lilith
3rd Place: Cloe & Aidan

Each entry demonstrated creativity, courage, and thoughtful engagement with an important public health topic.

Additional contests will take place throughout the school year, providing more students opportunities to share their perspectives and contribute to prevention education efforts.

Thank you to all participating students, schools, and community partners for supporting youth voice and awareness.

Know the Risk. Share the Knowledge. Change the Outcome.
