empowered recovery education support initiative
EmpowerEd is a recovery-focused education support program designed to help individuals in recovery pursue post-secondary education, vocational training, or certification programs that support long-term stability and employment goals.
Through EmpowerEd, eligible Nye County residents can receive direct tuition assistance and required program-related fees, helping reduce financial barriers to education and workforce development.
The program is administered in partnership with Nye Communities Coalition, which coordinates participant eligibility, enrollment verification, and payment requests directly with educational institutions.
EmpowerEd prioritizes practical, goal-oriented learning opportunities that strengthen individual capacity while supporting broader community recovery efforts.
What EmpowerEd Supports
EmpowerEd funding may be applied toward:
Tuition for approved education, training, or certification programs
Required program-related fees (such as lab fees, certification testing, or licensing costs)
Funds cannot be used for housing, transportation, optional supplies, late fees, or personal expenses.
Who Is Eligible
To be considered for EmpowerEd support, applicants must:
Be currently engaged in recovery from substance use
Be enrolled in or accepted into a qualifying post-secondary, vocational, or certification program
Be a resident of Nye County at the time of application
Demonstrate commitment to educational or career goals
Eligibility is verified through intake, documentation, and coordination with training providers.
Funding is not guaranteed and is distributed based on availability, eligibility, and County approval.
Program Oversight & Accountability
EmpowerEd includes built-in accountability measures to ensure responsible use of opioid settlement funds. Participant progress is tracked, and quarterly reports are submitted to Nye County Health and Human Services summarizing program activity, expenditures, and outcomes.
All tuition payments are made directly to educational providers, and the program operates under County oversight to ensure alignment with recovery goals and allowable settlement uses.
