Pahrump, Nev. - Sheriff Sharon Wehrly and the Nye County Sheriff's Office staff cordially invites everyone to join them in remembrance of Nye County's Fallen Law Enforcement Officers on Wednesday evening.
The "Fallen Officer Candlelight Ceremony" will be the first vigil held in remembrance of Nye County's eight officers who gave their life in the line of duty. Please join us Wednesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at the Ian Deutch Government Complex, 1520 E. Basin Road in Pahrump.
The Nye County Fallen are:
• Deputy Sheriff Ian Deutch
• Deputy Sheriff Gary Raymond Downs
• Undersheriff John Maslach
• Sheriff George Berra
• Deputy Sheriff William Maroon
• Sheriff Thomas Logan
• Deputy Sheriff Harry Mannon
• Deputy Constable Richard P. Ryan
The keynote speaker will be Randy Sutton, a 33-year law enforcement veteran, 23 years coming with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. During his service, he distinguished himself as one of the most highly decorated officers in department history, having earned multiple Lifesaving, Exemplary Service and Community Service awards, as well as a Medal of Valor. Sutton has trained thousands of law enforcement officers in the United States about “Policing with Honor.”
The vigil comes during National Police Week, which runs May 15-19. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
