[ARCHIVED] Household Hazardous Waste Collection event May 18 in Pahrump

PAHRUMP - US Ecology and Nye County are partnering for a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, May 18, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the County Landfill in Pahrump, 1631 E. Mesquite Ave. Items dropped off at the event will be transported to US Ecology's facility outside of Beatty for proper disposal. The event is free to the public.

Acceptable waste for the event includes:

*Bulbs: Mercury Bulbs Sodium Bulbs 

*Batteries: Lead Acid Batteries 

-Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) Batteries 

-Lithium Metal Batteries 

-Lithium-Ion Batteries 

-Mercury Batteries 

-Alkaline Batteries 

*Mercury-containing equipment: Thermometers, thermostats

*Paint-related material: Latex/Water Based Paint 

-Oil Based Paint/Lacquers/Thinners 

-Lead-Based Paint 

*Flammable and Non-flammable aerosols

*Used oil

*Antifreeze

*Electronic waste: TVs, computers, printers, cell phones, etc.

*Pool Chemicals (Must be in manufacturers original container with legible label) Dichlor/Trichlor (pucks and powder); Bromating agents (pucks and powder); Calcium Hypochlorite (pucks/tabs); Calcium Hypochlorite (powder/granular).

While the county will work to accept as much waste as possible brought to the event May 18, the County requests that the following items not be brought to the landfill:

*Propane cylinders 

*Fire Extinguishers 

*Fireworks 

*Explosive

*Flares 

*Flammable liquids 

*Household cleaners 

*Acids, bases, oxidizers 

*Pesticides/Herbicides

*OTC medications 

*Prescription Medications 

*Illicit Drugs 

*Epoxies/Resins 

*Smoke detectors 

*Sharps 

*Appliances 

*Home furnishings
