Nye County Board of Commissioners recognized October 15, 2019 as "US Ecology Day" throughout Nye County during their meeting on that date.
The honor was given in recognition of US Ecology's contributions to the first Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in May in Pahrump.
Text of the Proclamation presented to US Ecology:
WHEREAS, Southern Nye County benefits from the community partnership with US Ecology 5 along U.S. Highway 95 south of Beatty; and
WHEREAS, US Ecology has been a good steward of waste management at their facility and provides jobs to the region; and
WHEREAS, US Ecology partnered with Nye County to participate in the first Nye County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day event on May 18, 2019; and
WHEREAS, US Ecology was the primary sponsor that provided funding, staff equipment, logistics and waste receptacles for the 9-hour event at the Pabrump landfill, and;
WHEREAS, US Ecology collected 8,550 gallons of various forms of waste brought to the event from Pahrump households, including 2,955 gallons of paint and 2,200 gallons of used oil, and:
WHEREAS, US Ecology transported the collected waste from Pahrump to their facility outside IS Beatty to recycle or dispose of, helping keep the waste out of the Pahrump desert, and;
WHEREAS, US Ecology absorbed the total cost of waste disposal and their staffing of 20 employees, and;
IS NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Nye County Board of County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim October 15, 2019 as US Ecology Day, in Nye County, Nevada.
